Darwen Vale High School – Equality Objectives

At Darwen Vale High School, we are committed to ensuring equality of education and opportunity for all students, staff, parents, and carers, irrespective of race, gender, disability, religion or belief, sexual orientation, age, or socio-economic background. We aim to develop a culture of inclusion and diversity in which all those connected to the school feel proud of their identity and able to participate fully in school life.

In line with the Public Sector Equality Duty, our equality objectives for the next four years are:

  1. To narrow attainment gaps between different groups of students, including those eligible for Pupil Premium, students with SEND, and students from minority ethnic backgrounds.

  2. To promote inclusive practices across the curriculum and wider school life, ensuring that teaching materials and enrichment opportunities reflect and celebrate diversity.

  3. To improve the representation of under-represented groups in student leadership roles, extracurricular activities, and school events.

  4. To ensure that all staff receive regular training on equality, diversity, and inclusion, including how to identify and challenge unconscious bias and discrimination.

  5. To monitor and reduce incidents of prejudice-related behaviour, including bullying and derogatory language, through education, early intervention, and restorative approaches.

  6. To ensure accessibility for all students, staff, and visitors by reviewing and improving the physical environment and digital resources of the school.

These objectives will be reviewed annually and updated as necessary to reflect the evolving needs of our school community.
