We Love To Read

Launched and led by Simon Pilkington, our subject leader for PE and ELT member, Darwen Vale has been caught up in a frenzy of reading during this early part of school closure.

Through online platforms teachers have been communicating with their students urging them to read a chapter a day and to photograph themselves whilst doing so. The email that started this craze is below...

To Year 9,

It is vitally important that during our period of forced closure, we promote as many opportunities to exercise our minds as possible and one of the ways we can do this is through reading at home. Therefore, we are launching a reading challenge to all pupils! We are asking you to do the following:

‘Read a Chapter a Day’, using the hashtag #DVHSachapteradaychallenge. The hashtag will then be used on our Twitter account.

We want to hear of all the wonderful books you are reading so please share to:

1) @DarwenVale

2) @DVHSPhysEd

3) Email me directly (spilkington@darwenvale.com) and, with your parents’ permission I will post on twitter.

“Today a reader, tomorrow a leader.”

Happy Reading and stay healthy

We have had some amazing responses from the pupils and staff! When speaking to the pupils through Teams or email we are encouraging them to read and to share the books that they’ve been reading with us. Below are some of the responses that we have received from our school community, which is just one example of the never-ending commitment to learning and the Team Vale spirit that we continue to demonstrate during this challenging time.
