Year 7s Go to work – Enrichment Day
Super Enrichment Day on 11th May was a day to remember for 147 of our year 7 students because they all spent the morning at work. Further proof that Darwen Vale provides REAL experiences for all of its students. 9 different employers had agreed to give the students a taste of the work environment and the responsibilities that come with being at work, we at Vale were so grateful to each and every one of those employers.
The students met at school before 8:30am and were then whisked off to the respective place of work, here they took part in a range of activities that ranged from making bread to stuffing cushions.
Guided tours were given and questions were asked, before the students bounced back into school at 1:00pm full of news about their visit. Following a short lunch break the students then got into groups and organised presentations which they performed to the rest of the year group, as well as some of the employers themselves. Some footage of these presentations will be appearing on the website soon.
We are grateful to all our partners who made this day possible especially these employers
- NHS, Blackburn Hospital
- Herbert Parkinson, Darwen.
- Crown Paints, Darwen.
- Kaman, India Mill.
- Fagan & Whalley, Padiham
- Senator, Accrington
- Warburtons, Burnley
- Training 2000, Blackburn
The pupils, as always, were a credit to themselves and the school, and the day gave them a valuable insight into the world of work.
As the students themselves said…..
‘It has shown me what I possibly want to do in the future.’
‘This has helped me because I know what I want to do now.’
‘I know what a factory environment is like.’
‘It made me want to work harder so I can have a better job.’
And the final word to Megan, ‘I loved the trip.’
