The Rise of Rugby!
Rugby at Vale has gone from strength to strength over the past couple of years. We have seen a significant rise in attendance at training and with newly made links with Blackburn Rugby Club and Lancashire Rugby we able to access qualified coaches to lead sessions every week.
One of the main highlights is a newly formed link with schools in the East Lancashire area including St.Augustines, St.Wilfrids and Clitheroe Grammar. Through this a ‘RUFFS 9-aside’ league has been formed enabling schools to compete without added pressure of win at all costs. Parents and coaches who have attended are in awe of the standard of play, fitness and skills especially as most players do not play regular rugby. This is very encouraging for our 3 local clubs, Blackburn, Clitheroe and Burnley going forward.
When Vale set out on a rugby journey we wanted participation levels to rise but now we are aiming to introduce our pupils to competitive rugby and stoke their interest to join the local Rugby Clubs. We have also provided the opportunity for some of our upper school pupils to help out with coaching and leading the lower school when completing their national governing body qualifications.
