Football Finals Day @ Ewood Park - Year 8

Year 8 Match report vs DACA

We were honoured to have the home dressing room, something the boys appreciated. The game started like the champions league final, with each team led out onto the pitch and their name and number announced to the crowd. The old rivals stood in our way of glory.

We started the game the strongest and had the better of the chances and possession. Oliver Hunter and Owen Carstairs in particular dominating midfield to create chances for Callum Thompson, Mason Bowman and Ace Riley. Vales best chance came from a long-range effort from Carstairs, which looped over everyone, only to hit the post. The defence didn’t look too troubled with Lee Moss, Alfie Rimmer, Ben Gardiner and Zack Dickinson saying strong and Jayden McKenna in goal having nothing much to do. The score was level at half time 0-0.

The message was simple at, keep doing what you’re doing and the goals will come. The boys certainly did that. 10 minutes into the 2nd half, Hunter worked the ball to Thompson on the edge of the area. Thompson had a chance to shoot but saw Bowman in a better position. He slid the ball to Bowman who confidently slotted the ball into the bottom corner. 1-0 Vale!

Ewood Park is huge. After taking the lead fatigue started to set into the team and the boys needed to dig deep. Strong defending by Moss kept DACA at bay. We didn’t really create much chances during the latter half of the game but stayed together as team to stay solid and compact when defending. Then in the last minute of the game DACA had a chance but McKenna made a great save and the ball went for a corner. The ball came in and fell to a DACA player, from about 8 yards he mis-hit the ball and thankfully it went wide. Relief! From the resulting goal kick we got a free kick on the half way line. Hunter played through Bowman on the right, Bowman got to the bi-line and crossed a ball in for the oncoming Tyler Baldwin, who acrobatically scored with an overhead kick. SCENES! It was just a matter of running down the clock and waiting for the final whistle. Let the celebrations commence. Championes, Championes, Championes, Ole Ole Ole!

Score 2-0

Goal Scorers, Bowman, Baldwin.
