Member of Youth Parliament
Say Hello to Blackburn with Darwen’s newest Member for Youth Parliament!
Meet Harry Kay, our Head Boy. He has just been voted Member of Youth Parliament (MYP) for Blackburn with Darwen. He secured the most votes in this year’s election with a record turnout of 7000 voters.
His campaign for election started just before Christmas when he announced his candidacy . He wasn’t alone though and had to go head to head with Savannah Burke in an internal school vote to decide who would be our representative for the March election. Both candidates delivered speeches to every pupil in school through assembly and our School Council organised a ballot which was hard fought but that Harry won. Savannah agreed to be his campaign manager and they set about their campaign.
Harry campaigned on 3 themes – Bullying, youth image and libraries. Again, every pupil in school watched all 7 election speeches and voted for whom they thought would best represent their views.
We waited with great anticipation for the result which was announced on Monday night and we’re obviously delighted that Harry secured the most votes. We offer him our huge congratulations and look forward to the good work that he will have the opportunity to do in his new role.
Are you looking at a future Prime Minister? We think you might be!
