Am I allowed to take my child out of school to go on holiday during term time?
Schools are not allowed to authorise holidays in term time
What are the rules on electronic devices and mobile phones, especially if I need to contact my child urgently?
Mobiles phones are allowed at break and lunch only. They must be turned off and put away during and in between lessons. If you need to contact your child, please do it through the main office.
What extra-curricular activities are available for my child?
The honest answer is loads! We encourage every child to take an active interest in at least one extra-curricular activity. Please see the clubs section to see what’s on when!
What are the pupil absence procedures?
Phone the absence line before 9am on 01254 223000, press 1 and leave a voice message. The pupil must bring a note of absence to the form tutor on their return to school, written and signed by the parent/guardian.
If it is an absence that is known about in advance, phone in OR send a letter prior to the absence.
What are your rules on piercings and jewellery?
No jewellery allowed apart from one pair of small studs. No extremes of hair, no facial piercings.
How many different subjects will be taught each week?

Will my child need any special equipment such as calculator, cooking apron and lab coat?
Most equipment is provided for the pupils, but they must bring standard equipment to school, such as pen, pencil and ruler. For mathematics they will need a scientific calculator.
Who should I contact if I have any concerns?
The form tutor is the first port of call for any concerns you might have. If you feel your concern is very important the head of year/assistant head of year can be contacted. If the concern is specific to a subject you can contact the teacher or subject leader. You can phone the main office to get through to any member of staff, or use the school e-mail system.

One of the very many pupil offices – there’s lots, but the Pastoral Office, Pupil Office or Main Reception would be your best bet.

How much homework will I get and how do I record it?
Homework depends on your year group, but you can record your work in your planner.

Ask the teachers or Prefects. There are loads of clubs that will help with homework.
