Darwen Vale – My experience!

Chloe Walsh, a student of Blackburn College, spent three days voluntary work experience at Darwen Vale working with our SEN department. Here’s what she wrote into school about her experience;

Darwen Vale High School – My experience
By Chloe Walsh

On my first day of work experience with the SEN department, I was introduced to two ladies who were going to take care of my timetable….George and Rosina. Later in the day, I actually discovered they were called Rose and Georgina! Well, it seems most people get their names muddled up!
I can definitely say I have truly enjoyed working at Darwen Vale. All the staff were really helpful, welcoming and guide you through your experience. I have learned so much about the different teams needed to form an SEN department and the roles they play both in and out of the classroom. Also that each child has their own individual needs and it is the job of the SEN department to support them.
On my second day I worked with and talked to different pupils in English writing stories on ‘revenge’ and in maths, about rotations and in science making circuits. All the children made me feel very welcome as did the staff members. I began to find my way around the school…proud moment!
My third day was my last and final day, which was spent in the maths department. I would like to thank all staff and pupils who made me feel so welcome and as if I were part of #teamvale.
I have gained a lot of knowledge and this experience has helped me choose my career path for the future.
Thank you!
