Now we are cared for…
Life can be challenging for young people and to help with this we provide a secure and supportive pastoral system. Darwen Vale is a team and a family. Like all the best families we take great care in looking after each other.
The pastoral care of our students is a responsibility we take very seriously. To make certain each student is valued as an individual, our young people are welcomed into school by a Pastoral Team consisting of the Head of Year, Assistant Head of Year, Form Tutors and Inclusion Mentors, ensuring a smooth transition to secondary school. Students stay with the same Pastoral Team for Years 7 – 11. Many of the Pastoral Team do not have a teaching commitment which therefore ensures that they can have personal contact with staff and pupils at any point during the day. The relationships developed in this way help us to know your children very well and to support them in making the most of the learning opportunities provided.
Occasionally, there may be a situation where, unfortunately, your child needs support that a teacher is unable to provide. The PATH centre consists of in-house counsellors who can provide advice and support to pupils as they go through difficult times. The PATH centre also provides a confidential drop-in centre available to all pupils.
One of the many roles of Darwen Vales year 11 Prefect Team is to provide support and advice for the younger pupils. Some examples of this are, running the school councils for all years groups, the mentoring pupils, overseeing a daily nurture group and daily academic drop-in centres offering help with classwork and homework.
